NOSE RESHAPING

Medical term is “Rhinoplasty” – is a reshaping of the cartilage (nostrils) bone and the soft tissue of the nose to produce a natural proportional shape.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedure, can reduce or increase or change the size and shape of your nose. Change of the tip, nose bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils and change the angle between your nose and upper tip. By changing the appearance to your ideal shape so it may improve your self-confidence.

What is involved?

Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two. The skin of the nose is separated from supporting bone and cartilage, which is sculpted to the desired shape. The skin is then redraped over the new framework. Rhinoplasty can be performed from within the nostrils of the nose or by using an “open” procedure where a small incision is made across the columella, the vertical strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.

What happens after the surgery?

A light fibreglass splint is applied for the first week or two. You may have dressing in your nostrils for day or so, which may prevent you from breathing through nose. There should be very little pain in your nose. Very few people require painkillers.

Recovery

Most of the swelling and bruising should disappear within two weeks. You may have minor bleeding from nose for first few days and you can gently dab this away with the gauze swab of soft tissue. Unless otherwise advised. It is best to leave any crusts in your nostril for the first week then gently clean it with cotton wool buds, preferably damp. Keep your head up as much as possible. Avoid having hot baths. Do not blow your nose or sneeze through your nose. It is best to sneeze or cough it out into the back of your throat.

Removal of sutures: Remember the stitches are inside your nose and will probably be of the dissolving type and may not need to remove. If the stitches are outside your nose, surgeon will advise to on their care and the time for their removal. Once the splint is removed be very careful the way you handle your nose for first six weeks.
