BREAST AUGMENTATION

What is breast enhancement?

It is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast using implants.

Breast augmentation is performed for a number of reasons:

  • To enhance the body contour of woman who feels her breasts are too small
  • To restore loss of breast volume after pregnancy
  • To balance a difference in breast size

Breasts can be made larger by inserting an implant either under the breast tissue or behind the muscle to increase a woman’s bust line by one or more bra cup sizes. The process can enhance the body image.

Before and After

While the greater majority of women do not experience any complication, there are many issues to discuss prior to surgery:

  • What types of implants to be inserted?
  • Will the implants change the sensitivity or interfere with breastfeeding?
  • Will the silicone be found in breast milk?
  • How long the implants stay in the breasts?

Majority of woman who has breast implants do not have complications. But they may be thickened and contracted only in 10% of woman. The newer designs of implants have featured to reduce the likelihood of happening.

What is involved?

The breast is a silicone rubber shell filled with either medical grade gel or a salt-water solution known as saline. The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your anatomy, your preferences and surgeon’s recommendation. Working through an incision, the surgeon lifts the breast tissue and skin to create a pocket, either behind the breast tissue or underneath your chest wall muscle. The operation usually takes about one and a half hours and can be performed with a local or general anesthetic and monitored intravenous sedation if patient pretors.
